Open Road
A free speedometer app for your next drive
Open Road is a speedometer app that is free to download on iPhone and Android, with live GPS speed and a drive log. If you only need a quick speed check, our online speedometer also works without installing anything.
Free to download. Open Road Pro is optional, with a 3-day trial on the yearly plan.

Choose the browser tool or the app
For a quick answer to "how fast am I going?", use the free online GPS speedometer. Allow location, tap Start and keep the page open. For a drive you want to keep, the Open Road app records the route and saves it with time, distance and top speed.
Free to download, with optional Pro
Open Road is free to download. Pro is an optional upgrade, with a 3-day trial on the yearly plan. Check the plan screen in the app for the features included before choosing an upgrade. You do not need a subscription or an app download to use the browser speedometer on this site.
MPH or km/h, using your phone GPS
The speedometer uses GPS, so there is no extra device to connect to your car. Choose mph or km/h. GPS reception affects readings, especially indoors or in tunnels. Set your phone up before leaving and keep your attention on the road.
Keep more than the current speed
Automatic drive recording gives you a driving history to look back at. Each recorded road joins your map of roads driven, and you can see friends on a live map or drive together in a convoy. For iPhone setup, see our iPhone speedometer guide.
