This is a real GPS speedometer that runs in your browser: no download, no account. It reads your device's GPS and shows your live speed, top speed, and distance for a quick drive. Great for a sanity-check against your dashboard or seeing how fast you're really going.
How to check your speed right now
- Tap Start speedometer and allow location when your browser asks.
- Wait a few seconds for a GPS fix. It is fastest outside or near a window.
- Read your live speed, top speed, and trip distance. Tap Stop when you are done.
Location blocked? Turn it back on
iPhone (Safari): open Settings, then Privacy & Security, Location Services, Safari Websites, and choose While Using the App. Turn on Precise Location on the same screen, or the speed will be rough. Then reload this page.
Android (Chrome): tap the icon to the left of the web address, then Permissions, and allow Location. If Chrome has no location access at all, turn it on in your phone settings under Apps, Chrome, Permissions. Then reload this page.

- How fast am I going right now?
- Tap Start speedometer at the top of this page and allow location. Your current speed shows in big numbers within a few seconds of getting a GPS fix and keeps updating live, in mph or km/h.
- Can I switch between mph and km/h?
- Yes. Use the MPH and KMH toggle above the speed. Your top speed and distance switch units with it.
- Why does it show 0 or jump around?
- GPS needs a view of the sky. Indoors, in tunnels, and in parking garages the signal drops, so the speed can stick at 0 or jump. Standing still also reads 0. Give it a few seconds outside or near a window and it settles.
- How does an online GPS speedometer work?
- It reads your phone or laptop GPS through the browser and converts your change in position over time into speed. It works in any vehicle with no extra hardware. Just allow location access and start.
- Is a GPS speedometer accurate?
- GPS accuracy depends on the device, reception and conditions. A clear view of the sky helps. Tunnels, buildings and weak signals can affect readings.
- Does this work without an app?
- Yes. This speedometer runs entirely in your browser, nothing to install. For a drive log that keeps the route, time, distance and top speed of every drive, the Open Road app does the rest.
- Why does my browser speedometer reset when I lock my phone?
- Browsers pause GPS when the screen sleeps, so the web tool is best for a quick check. Open Road supports background drive recording after you complete the recording and location setup in the app.
