Online GPS Speedometer Not Working: Fix the Browser Reading
If an online speedometer stays at zero, first check location permission and GPS reception. Zero can also be the correct reading while stationary. Use this checklist for the browser tool; it does not diagnose a broken vehicle dashboard.
Free to download. Open Road Pro is optional, with a 3-day trial on the yearly plan.

Start with the permission and the page
Open the speedometer on its normal HTTPS address and tap Start. If you refused location earlier, change the site permission in your browser and reload. The website cannot enable location on your behalf.
If the browser itself has no phone location permission, allowing the website alone will not solve it. Check device location services as well. On a computer without a GPS receiver, location may come from a network estimate and be unsuitable for measuring movement.
Separate no signal from no movement
Try outside or near a window and wait for another fix. A stationary phone should usually show zero. Indoors, beneath a covered parking area and between tall buildings, fixes may arrive slowly or jump.
Our tool keeps trying after a temporary location timeout. A denied permission needs you to change permission first. Stop and restart after correcting a setting; confirm that live status returns before relying on the display.
Screen off can pause a browser session
Keep the tab visible for a quick browser check. Mobile browsers may suspend location when hidden or when the screen sleeps. For saved drives, configure background recording in the Open Road app and check a short test drive.
If your actual vehicle speedometer has failed, this browser checklist does not identify the fault. Arrange appropriate vehicle inspection instead of assuming a phone reading repairs the dashboard.

All driving guides and free toolsQuestions, answered
- Why does the online speedometer show 0?
- You may be stationary, location may be blocked, or the device may not have a usable fix. Check permission, reception and the live status in that order.
- Does a GPS timeout mean I must reinstall something?
- No. The browser tool keeps looking after a temporary timeout. Move to better reception and check the next reading.
- Will this fix my car speedometer?
- No. This guide covers a website using phone location. A vehicle dashboard fault needs separate inspection.
