Open Road
Personal Mileage Tracker: Keep Your Own Driving History
For personal mileage, Open Road keeps recorded drives with distance, time and a route map. Choose it when you want to remember your driving and the roads you explored. For business classification and reimbursement reports, use a tool designed for that workflow.
Free to download. Open Road Pro is optional, with a 3-day trial on the yearly plan.

Start with what you want the record for
A personal log answers questions such as how long a trip took, which route you followed and how far that recorded journey went. A business reporting tool has another job: classifying work trips and producing the required reports.
Open Road is built around your drives and roads. This guide does not claim tax-ready reports, business labels or reimbursement calculations. Keeping that distinction clear prevents choosing an app that cannot do the task you need.
A GPS distance is not the odometer
A drive tracker measures a recorded path from location data. Your vehicle odometer measures accumulated vehicle distance. Missing recording at either end of a drive, reception gaps and different measurement methods can produce different totals.
If you want to compare them for your own reference, note the odometer before and after a short trip while parked. Compare that trip with the corresponding saved drive. Do not mix a lifetime odometer reading with distance from one app session.
Keep the route with the mileage
In Open Road you can look at a recorded drive by date and see the route behind its distance. Use the combined roads map when you want to see overall exploration. For work reporting requirements, compare the dedicated tools linked below rather than assuming the personal log replaces them.

All driving guides and free toolsQuestions, answered
- Can I track personal mileage with Open Road?
- Yes. Recorded drives include distance, time and a route. The app is intended for personal driving history and exploring roads.
- Is this a business mileage reporting app?
- Open Road does not provide business trip classification or tax-ready reports. Choose a dedicated mileage reporting tool for that workflow.
- Why is app distance different from my odometer?
- The app measures a GPS-recorded path; the vehicle uses its own measurement. Reception gaps and incomplete recording can change the app total.
