Driving Roads / Beartooth Highway
This 68-mile run between Red Lodge and Cooke City zigzags up steep switchbacks to the 10,947-foot Beartooth Pass, one of the highest paved roads in the Northern Rockies. It runs about 68 miles along US-212 in Montana / Wyoming, roughly ~3 hours one way of driving.
Track the elevation climb and replay the switchback ascent to the pass; cornering and altitude are the story here, not top speed.
High-altitude switchbacks with snow possible even in summer; slow for hairpins and watch for changing weather and ice in shaded sections.
Open Road is free on iPhone and Android.
